Match Report - Baboons vs Prebbleton

posted 25 Feb 2010, 01:33 by Richard Derham
It was David v Goliath as the Not-top-of-the-table Baboons took on the top of the table Prebbleton side.

We won the toss - again and batted first - again. Jesse McCartney laid down the foundation early on with a comfortable 26, until he was out to Paulie with an unnecessarily inventive shot. Richard Derham and Doug Newall then steadied things when we were in danger of collapsing.

Doug showed a boring side no one knew he possessed as he dead batted his way to 1 from his first 26 balls. However, upon Richard's dismissal Doug bludgeoned 44 runs from his remaining 29 balls. This innings, along with good contributions from the lower order, got the Baboons through to a competitive 171.

Despite bowling well, the Prebbleton openers and top order managed to stay in. This proved telling as they were able to play more aggressively later in the innings and eventually got to 172 with 2 balls to spare.

One feature of the day was the way the team refused to be overawed by playing the table toppers. The younger members were allowed a degree of latitude to talk back to the opposition and bring them down to size. However, this latitude will not necessarily be allowed every week :-)

Ryan Mills won the Mr Grumpy award after he challenged an opposition player to a fight in the car park after the match.
